HR podcast ‘Het Betere Werk’: on how to keep our work manageable

Client: Ghent University

HR-podcast ‘Het Betere Werk’: over hoe we ons werk werkbaar houden

About the podcast

Raise your hand if you’ve never experienced stress at work. Or if you’re perfectly capable of putting your phone aside all weekend. Also, raise your hand if you’ve never attended an online meeting in pajamas.

We’re pretty sure that few to no people can raise their hand to all three questions. ⅙ Flemings indicate that they suffer from burn-out complaints. Especially during the corona pandemic, the line between work and private life has become blurred for many, which requires a lot of adaptability. Our job is a large part of our daily lives, and that is precisely why it is so important to build in strategies to ensure our well-being there too.

“That we are able to deliver such a quality product that receives such an enthusiastic response is partly due to the professional guidance of Chase Creative.” Sara Drieghe – Trustpunt, Ghent University

Throughout 6 episodes, hosts Lore Vermeulen (Trustpunt, UGent) and Pieter Blomme (Chase podcast expert) explore how we can keep our work workable. Based on personal stories of Ghent University employees and conversations with experts, they offer answers to work-related concerns in the HR podcast ‘Het Betere Werk’. Among the speakers are professors Johan Braeckman, Els Clays, Lieven De Marez, Emelien Lauwerier, Eveline Schollaert and professor/minister Petra de Sutter. Each episode provides concrete tools that you too may be able to implement at work.

The goal of this HR podcast

In the words of Ghent University rector Rik Van de Walle:

“There is often still a taboo surrounding mental well-being at work. With Ghent University, we want to break that taboo. The authentic, relatable stories in this podcast can help us do that. They complement the concrete tools we offer our employees to increase their well-being.”

What was originally going to be a project for and by Ghent University staff, was quickly opened up to the general public. Rector Rik van de Walle, among others, thought it was important for the podcast to be accessible to everyone. The more people who can learn from it, the better.

The process

The 6-part HR podcast required months of preparation. It quickly became clear that Chase Creative and Ghent University had developed a good symbiosis. From the hosts to the guests, to the testimonials: the role of the Ghent University staff in the making of this podcast was indispensable. With the help of Sara and Lore from Trustpunt, the psychosocial welfare service at the University, we managed to enlist dozens of colleagues to share their personal stories, including the rector and vice-rector. Hosts Pieter and Lore also both work at Ghent University.

Within this partnership, Chase took care of the:

  • Creative concept & podcast format
  • Technical hosting & publication
  • Social advertising campaign
  • Dedicated podcast landing page & copywriting
  • Podcast artwork, visuals & audiograms
  • Creation of audio & video teasers

“It was very nice to work with young and driven people who know how to get things done. I experienced the contact as very accessible, I could discuss any concerns and ask questions. I am very pleasantly surprised by the professionalism that radiates from the final product.” Lore Vermeulen – Trustpunt, Ghent University

The results

Only 1 week after the launch, ‘Het Betere Werk’ was already number 1 in the health category on Apple Podcasts. In the general ranking, it managed to conquer seventh place and ended up in front of a number of established names in the Flemish podcasting world. Besides these good figures, we also noticed a lot of enthusiasm among the Ghent University staff, and the social campaign was eagerly shared with the target group. This also enabled us to create a lot of awareness and engagement around the theme of well-being at work.

We are very pleased with the results and hope that the listeners were able to take away some tips as well!

You can find the podcast on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, or Spotify and of course also on the website of Het Betere Werk.

“Very happy that I was able to contribute to this. I personally think it’ s a very successful podcast series with beautiful testimonies about well-being at work that are then framed by experts. Highly recommended!”  Mieke van Herreweghe – Vice-rector Ghent University
