TikTok ‘round the clock: staying on-trend is the key to visibility
TikTok has become part of our daily, digital lives. It’s safe to admit that we all fall down the TikTok rabbit hole every once in a while – spend half an hour on the app, and you’ll probably know all the new trends by heart already.
Because of this, TikTok is a huge base for many creators. It offers so many possibilities and opportunities. It’s no longer a luxury to be on this platform if you want to stay relevant and up-to-date. Today, TikTok has over a billion active monthly users and there’s good reason for that: on TikTok it’s relatively easy to be picked up by the algorithm and even go viral if you follow the trends.
Create your own magic
It almost sounds like there’s a hidden formula behind this, but don’t be mistaken. Really it’s about being creative, authentic, and engaging. Seeing the same type of video over and over causes people to lose interest, and this is why it’s important to stand out. How? Often, giving the trend a little twist of your own is what attracts. Playing out your personality in your content is what keeps (potential) followers hooked.
Take a look at the examples below; notice how the general idea remains the same, but each of these creators added a personal touch to the trend?
I spy with my little eye...
There’s many ways you can make your content visible to a larger audience, and it doesn’t even have to be as hard as you might think.
The first thing you should do is add hashtags. It’s simple, but effective. #foryou and #fyp will make your video pop up on many people’s feeds, but you could also put your country in the caption, as well as tags that are relevant to what your video is about.
Sounds are often the reason why certain trends exist in the first place. If you want to join a trend, make sure to use the same audio others have used in order to get picked up by the algorithm.
Do you have a particular interest, hobby, or passion you want to make content about? Make it your niche. By staying consistent in what you post, you’ll speak to a broad community that specifically watches and looks up content about these kinds of topics. For example, you might have heard of booktok, gymtok or traveltok. In lots of cases, you can combine your niche with a viral trend to gain more visibility – just like in the examples above. It’s important to be innovative and avoid repetition, though. Ask yourself why your content stands out from others and find a creative way to put it forward.
Keep it short and simple; TikTok videos usually aren’t longer than 15 seconds because of short attention span. If you want to make a longer video (mini-vlog, storytime, …) you can still use those first 15 seconds to your advantage with the 3-12-infinity rule: 3 seconds to announce what it is about, 12 seconds to elaborate. If it’s engaging enough, viewers will be more likely to keep watching a longer video. If your videos are informative or educational, make sure to keep it light and interesting, but also valuable and refreshing.
Last but not least, you can cross-promote your video by sharing it on other social media channels. Add a clear call-to-action that makes your followers curious to see what else you post on TikTok. That way, you can carry over your audience from one platform to another.
Keep in mind though, it’s all about trial-and–error. Some things will work, others won’t. Stay patient and don’t expect your first video to blow up immediately. All those people you follow that have thousands of followers and views once started from scratch, too. It’s a matter of time and posting on a regular basis.

We, at Chase, also incorporate this vivacious platform into our work.
One of the most influential Flemish creators on our world wide web is creator Aaron De Groeve – who is also a Chase Academy alumni 😉- he entertains today’s youth with his funny personality, talking about fashion and skincare, among other things. About a month ago, we invited Aaron to speak at the Digital Creator Meet-up we organized at our office in Ghent.
As a digital storytelling agency, it’s important for us to be up-to-date when it comes to what the internet is obsessing about. Aaron talked to us about his social media journey and how he became popular among Flemish youth mostly through his TikTok account, where he now has over 170K followers. Join our Chase community if you want to be there next time! In the meantime, check out the aftermovie >
Furthermore, Chase Music regularly posts videos about what we’ve poured our hearts into for 10 years now: music. This summer Chase Music was present at a bunch of Belgian festivals – like Pukkelpop, Dour and Fire is Gold – which led to some of our most viewed TikToks. The reason these did so well? We made content about a popular topic and used trending sounds.
If you love festivals as much as we do, definitely check out @chasemusicbe on TikTok to find out what else we were up to!
